When does my student perform? 1 1Not all students will perform at every concert. At Ellendale Elementary we like to spotlight specific grades during PTA performances, Holiday performances, and special school events. Schoolwide performances take place near the end of the semesters. There will be a 1st through 3rd grade winter performance and a separate Kindergarten and 5th grade graduation performance. You can find the dates for these performances on the school website, and under the "Our Performances" page on this website. Please make sure your student(s) show up for their designated grade level performance. If you need further information about your student(s) performances please contact me via e-mail and I will get back to you as soon as possible. As Covid continues to be a concern for the world performances may be modified or cancelled to insure the safety of our students and community members. Please be flexible in these uncertain times. If a performance is changed or modified to virtual, you will receive notification from the music teacher and the school. 1 1

Does my student need anything for music class? 1 1The only students who will need to purchase specific supplies for my music class are 4th and 5th graders. These students will be learning recorder, starting in 4th grade and continuing through fifth grade. Students will be asked to bring in money to the school to purchase their recorder. Recorders are $10.00 each and come with a care/learning kit. If you are a parent of a 4th/5th grade student you will receive a letter home at the beginning of the school year letting you know about the specifics of purchasing this instrument. *If a fifth grader loses their recorder and needs to order a new one, they will be able to do so at the beginning of the school year. Please have them speak to Mrs. Hopper about the issue. 1 1

What do students do in music class? 1In music class we learn to hear and sing pitch patterns, perform songs, play on instruments, improvise our own melodies on instruments, read music notation, and write music notation. Students will learn to use these skills to become young musicians, and enrich their school lives. They will be able to use these skills in reading, writing, and history. Music builds basic skills of fluency in literacy and is a great way to introduce culture and history to students. 1
